Brilliant Bookshops: White Rose Book Cafe

Thirsk is a lovely market town in Yorkshire, made famous by James Alfred Wight, the vet who, as James Herriot, wrote entertaining and endearing books about his experiences. Known to many through both the original very popular television series starring Christopher Timothy and the more recent one with Nicholas Ralph as James, the town is a popular place to visit, offering a range of independent shops, including the White Rose Book Cafe.

Spread over two floors, this lovely shop offers an excellent range of books in an attractive and friendly setting. The shop specialises in books about the locality, particularly reflecting the town’s links to James Herriot and the Channel 5 series, ‘The Yorkshire Vet’. A wide range of walking guides and maps reflect the town’s perfect position for exploring the beautiful countryside and coastline surrounding it and the shop prides itself in promoting local authors and their books. The children’s section is wonderful, offering a wide range of titles for all interests and ages.

The cafe offers an excellent range of tasty treats and delicious drinks with plenty of space to sit and relax with friends or to enjoy a quiet time, reading one of your new purchases. A lovely town and a lovely bookshop!
