Brilliant Bookshops: The Book Rest

Ilminster is a lovely Somerset town with a beautiful church- the Minster which gives it its name- towering above narrow streets and winding ways with a market square with the market house at its centre. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside, offering lovely walks.

Up on West Street, conveniently opposite a car park, is The Book Rest, a treasure trove of second hand books- much bigger than it appears from the outside! The first room as you come through the door offers a wonderful range of fiction titles as well as British history- there were quite a few Richard III titles I noticed! The shop continues through into a second room where you can find the children’s section and a wide range of non-fiction titles. Their website also comments on an ‘atmospheric cellar’- but I’m afraid I missed this! The books I looked at were in really good condition and the shop had a welcoming, friendly atmosphere.
