Tate St Ives
St Ives is a well-known seaside location, popular with surfers and art-lovers alike. Here, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean stands the Tate St Ives, a wonderful gallery which houses work from artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Patrick Heron.
Built on the site of a former gasworks overlooking Porthmeor Beach, the gallery was opened in June 1993 and both the building and the views enhance the visitor’s experience (even on a blustery, grey January day!) as they wander through the galleries, enjoying the art within.
The building is very accessible with ramps, lifts and automatic doors and plenty of seating is dotted around with additional folding stools available for those who might need them. The rooms are beautifully presented with neutral walls which make the exhibits stand out and plenty of space to wander and wonder.
The cafe is located on the top floor, offering lovely views of the old town and the ocean- the perfect place to finish a visit. It costs about £15 for an adult to visit this art gallery, but it is well worth it for the experience!
