Brilliant Bookshops: St David’s Bookshop

Found in Pembrokeshire, Wales, St. David’s is the smallest city in the UK. Its Cathedral houses the shrine of St David and became a famous site of pilgrimage in medieval times. The city itself is tiny, full of ice cream shops, places to eat and bustling with tourists. However, follow the convenient signs and just out of the centre of the city, you will find St David’s Bookshop, a real haven for book lovers!

This lovely independent bookshop was opened in 1957 by the previous owner’s father. Having moved from its original home in the Pebbles in early 2021, it continues to serve the local community by offering a wonderful range of both new and second hand books in its new location in Maes Dyfed. The owner is delightful, full of pride for his shop and knowledgeable about the books on offer.

The shop is spread across two rooms. Like the city, it is a compact space, but this does nothing to spoil the enjoyment of browsing its shelves. A particularly interesting section of Wales and local history is well worth exploring and the children’s section offered a very good range of titles in both English and Welsh. There was even a very good dedicated poetry section, something you don’t often find!

St David’s is a lovely place to visit- and this brilliant bookshop makes it all the more so!
