Brilliant Bookshops: Browser

Set on the western bank of the estuary of the river Dart, Dartmouth is a thriving harbour town with a rich maritime heritage, much loved by tourists. Geoffrey Chaucer visited here in 1373, Flora Thompson lived in Above Town between 1928 and 1940 and Agatha Christie’s beautiful holiday home, Greenway, can be found on the banks of the Dart. Christopher Robin- the original of the Winnie the Pooh stories- used to own the Harbour Bookshop here, but sadly, this closed in 2011. The Dartmouth Bookseller opened in 2015, and, having previously visited this, I was curious when I noticed that it is now called ‘Browser’- so I set off for a visit!

The shop was completely transformed! A bright, eye-catching shop front with its well chosen name welcomes book lovers, hinting at the treats inside. Browsing is key here as the stock has been really carefully selected and includes some real treasures which I hadn’t seen anywhere else. Coupled with friendly, helpful staff, this really made the visit worthwhile and enjoyable! Worth going out of the way to visit!
