At the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington is a lovely little town. Its cobbled market square is surrounded by cafes and shops, including a wonderful bookshop.

However, Grassington has recently found fame as the fictional town of Darrowby in the Channel 5 version of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, based on the books by James Herriot. The Devonshire, pictured above, is transformed into the Drovers Arms, the pub at the heart of the village with Skeldale House, the home of Siegfried Farnon and the veterinary practice, is on the other side of the square (see below).

The Stripey Badger Bookshop plays the part of the grocers, G F Endleby, where Mrs Hall is often seen shopping. A little nook at the back celebrates the shop’s role in the programme with pictures of the cast and copies of James Herriot’s books.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Grassington is well worth a visit for walkers as well as those interested in ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ or a lovely place to have a cuppa and a slice of cake!
