Open Doors: Exeter Library
Yesterday, I went to Exeter for the 'Exeter Library's Special Collections: A 'White Glove' Experience’. Having missed my chance last year, I was very excited to have managed to get a ticket for this year’s event.
Books are very important to me so being able to get up close to some of the library’s treasures and the session could not have been managed any better. Starting with a very enthusiastic and warm welcome from the lady leading the session, we were introduced to the selection of books on offer and given guidance on how to handle them, including the use of cushions and stands.
And then, we were allowed to browse… There were some real treasures to look at, including one which survived the Blitz and a 1717 edition of Aesop’s Fables. There was plenty of time to look at each and every book and to ask any questions we wanted.
Run as part of Open Doors Week, Libraries Unlimited is a charity which runs these sessions and much more to engage people with the treasures of the library.
